Curriculum Philosophy
I believe in...
- curriculum as a living and breathing entity, therefore I will give constant care and attention to the curriculum year after year.
- a guaranteed and viable curriculum, therefore I will do my best to provide every student with the opportunity to learn the material and the time in which to learn it.
- monitoring and adapting curriculum each year to fit each class and group of students differently, therefore I will do my best to be aware of the population we serve and encourage teachers to serve them in the best way possible.
- multicultural education as a crucial part of curriculum, therefore I will ensure that tolerance, acceptance, cultural awareness, and kindness are intentionally modeled, taught, and assessed.
- the importance of resources to the success of a curriculum, therefore I will do my best to either ensure teachers and students are provided with the resources they need to implement a set curriculum or work to change the curriculum.
- the gifts of teachers to make curriculum work for students, therefore I will give teachers the tools to ensure that instructional practices are constantly improving.
- formative assessment as an underused tool to demonstrate student achievement, therefore I will make certain teachers are trained in formative assessment and utilize both formative and summative assessment to analyze data.
- the importance of timelines to successful goal setting and curriculum implementation, therefore I will make sure a set curriculum contains a scope and sequence and pacing that help teachers and students stay on target.
