Philosophy of Supervision and Evaluation
I believe:
Philosophy of Supervision and Evaluation
I believe:
- the goal of teacher supervision and evaluation is to positively influence teaching and learning; therefore, I will view a school's evaluation system as a tool for continuous improvement.
- an instructional model should be implemented first to give teachers and administration a common language and common goals for effective instruction; therefore, I will begin with implementing or re-examining a school's instructional model as a first step toward reaching effective evaluation.
- an instructional model should clearly outline the most important elements of effective instruction and be posted and revisited often in professional development; therefore, I will commit to consistent review of the instructional model and its relevance to everyday practice.
- an evaluator must give consistent and constructive feedback in order for evaluation to be effective; therefore, I will do my best to provide others with reflective observations, contemplative guidance, and reliable support.
- teacher evaluation should reflect performance over time, not one class period, one day; therefore, as a leader I will be present in the classroom on a regular basis.
- all teachers should be learners, and continuous improvement should be a cultural norm among staff; therefore, I will develop evaluation and supervision as a continuous process meant to help teachers be the best they can be.
- teachers of all levels of experience and expertise can benefit from goal-setting and reflection; therefore, I will help teachers by providing tiered elements of an instructional model that can vary in complexity according to teacher skill.
- evaluation of classified staff should reflect the growth mindset of instructional staff; therefore, I will develop a relationship with classified staff and use evaluation as a tool to encourage regular professional improvement.
